Punjab is close to becoming a potato exporting province in the global market, with a huge increase of 25 percent in potato production compared to last year.
Punjab has broken all records in potato production, with a historic production of 12 million metric tons. Practical efforts are underway for agricultural cooperation between the Punjab government and Kazakhstan.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has sought permission from the Prime Minister of Pakistan to export the record potato production to prevent it from being lost.
Important progress is expected today between the high-level delegation of Kazakhstan present in Pakistan and the Punjab government for potato exports.
The Punjab government is in constant contact with the federal government to ensure effective measures for potato export. Steps are being taken to access new export markets to ensure stability in potato prices and proper compensation to farmers.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that access to new global markets is being gained for potato exports, Kazakhstan is the first step, soon we will gain access to more international agricultural markets, the record production of potatoes in Punjab will not be allowed to be sold at a low price.
Maryam Nawaz said that she will not leave her farmers at the mercy of middlemen or the market, the Punjab government is taking practical steps with the federal government to get better compensation for farmers.
