Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered to take major steps to increase the country’s economic growth and exports.
A review meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding increasing domestic exports and accelerating the pace of economic growth. In it, he directed that the increase in domestic exports should be made the basis of economic growth and said that along with traditional sectors, more sectors should also be prepared for exports to global markets.
The Prime Minister said that to diversify trade, more sectors and industries should be included in export activities.
He directed that effective steps be taken to bring the quality of Pakistani products in line with global requirements, make the quality assurance system effective and ensure full implementation of international standards and regulations.
The Prime Minister directed to pay special attention to value addition in exports, saying that this would increase both the value and competitiveness of Pakistani products in the global market. He said that digitalization and modern technology should be fully utilized to align the country’s economy with modern requirements. The Prime Minister also directed to remove administrative and business obstacles faced by exporters and make the export process easier, faster and more transparent.
On this occasion, the meeting was apprised of the progress of implementation of the approved strategic roadmap for the promotion of exports, while various proposals related to access to new global markets, diversification of export sectors, improvement in product quality and business facilitation were reviewed.
The meeting also considered in detail the issue of improving the global competitiveness of export sectors.
The briefing further informed that steps are being taken with several friendly countries for free trade agreements and trade agreements at concessional rates to increase the access of Pakistani products to global markets. The meeting was informed that steps are also being taken to include Pakistani horticultural products in exports.

The meeting was informed that exhibitions related to TEXPO, Health Engineering and Minerals Show, Food and Agriculture (FoodAg) and other sectors are being organized in different cities of the country to make global companies aware of Pakistani products. In addition, work is underway to align intellectual property laws with modern requirements to promote innovation in exports.
The meeting was informed that the process of restructuring the Export Development Fund has been completed and steps are being taken by the EDF to provide facilities to the business community.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Jam Kamal Khan, Dr. Mosaddiq Masood Malik, Ahad Khan Cheema and Muhammad Aurangzeb. In addition, Advisor to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani and senior officers of relevant institutions also attended the meeting.
