LAHORE: Senior vice chairman of the PPP and former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that though the prime minister has the discretionary powers for mid-term elections but the PPP holds the key in this regard.
Talking to media here on Sunday, the former prime minister said the parliament is representative of 180 million people of Pakistan and the PPP was not supporting the government but democracy and parliament. He said the PPP had never demanded mid-term elections. He said if they did not work for a strong parliament, people would speak about raising of finger by the third umpire.
Answering a question, the former prime minister said the next PPP workers’ convention would be held in Lahore and the party would be reorganised in consultation with the workers.
He said the PPP candidate in Multan by-elections could not get time for his campaign. He said the PPP campaigned for Aamir Dogar for NA-149 Multan by-elections but at the last moment he refused to get the party ticket. As a result, Javed Siddiqi was fielded as party candidate but they did not get enough time and that was the reason for the defeat.
Gilani said the PPP would be strengthened and workers would become more active with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari coming on politics centre stage.INP
