In a case filed at the International Criminal Court, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been accused of aiding Israel in the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza by supplying weapons.

According to the International News Agency, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed that the case against her was filed on October 1 by about 50 lawyers, legal experts and leading public figures.

According to her, the names of Italian Defense Minister Guido Crocetto, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and the head of the arms manufacturer Leonardo, Roberto Cingolani, have also been included in the case and accused of aiding and abetting genocide.

The complainants argue that Italy provided Israel with deadly weapons that are being used in the ongoing war in Gaza to commit genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians.

The case calls on the International Criminal Court to conduct a formal investigation into this complaint against Italy and to take action against those responsible.

The Italian Prime Minister said in a TV interview that in my opinion, there is no example of this type of complaint anywhere else in the world.

However, Italian Defense Minister Crocetto says that the weapons supplied to Israel are only being supplied under agreements that were concluded before October 7, 2023, that is, before the Gaza war.

He added that despite this, Italy has obtained assurances from Israel that these weapons will not be used against civilians.

Earlier, Italian Foreign Minister Tajani had claimed that Italy had stopped supplying weapons to Israel.

According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), between 2020 and 2024, Italy was one of the few countries that supplied a large number of weapons to Israel.

Including helicopters and naval guns. In addition, Italy is also among the countries that produce parts for the F-35 aircraft led by the United States.

The complaint comes at a time when the ICC has also issued warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. However, they have not been charged with “genocide.”

In addition, South Africa has filed a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), while Nicaragua has also made similar charges against Germany, but the court refused to proceed with the case in April 2025.

The United States, which supplies Israel with the largest number of weapons, is not a member of the ICC and has strongly opposed the court’s actions.

Recently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio imposed sanctions on three Palestinian human rights organizations that played a role in the ICC investigation against Israeli officials.

On the other hand, posters of Prime Minister Meloni were raised in recent weeks during mass protests in Italy, calling him an “accomplice to genocide.”

This case, registered at the ICC, is not only increasing public pressure on the Italian government, but could also be a precursor to legal and diplomatic difficulties at the international level.
