ISLAMABAD: A committee of investigation into the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader and former human rights minister Dr Shireen Mazari was convened on Thursday.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has set up a three-member panel to investigate the former minister’s arrest in connection with a land case filed with the Anti-Corruption Establishment. Former law secretary and retired Justice Shakur Paracha will lead the commission.
Former Inspector General (IG) Dr. Noman Khan and former Federal Secretary Dr. Saifullah are also members of the commission.
According to a statement from the Cabinet Division, the commission will assess the investigation and charges surrounding Mazari’s detention and make recommendations to the federal cabinet by July 4.
A lawsuit for a probe into the detention of the PTI leader was also filed, with the court requesting a report from the National Assembly by July 7.
