Karachi: The low bid for importing 200,000 metric tons of sugar into the country has been rejected and the high bid has been accepted.
The Trading Corporation had raised the objection that the relevant documents of the two rejected companies were not complete, however, the low price offers of 2 out of 5 companies were rejected, the high bid for importing sugar from two companies was accepted, while during the tender, a company from the United Arab Emirates withdrew its documents, withdrawing its bid.
A total of 5 companies submitted bids in the tender for importing sugar, out of which only two bids were declared acceptable.
According to the TCP tender document, the London-based company M/s E.D. & F. Man Sugar Limited submitted the lowest bid for importing sugar.
This London-based company had bid $539 per metric ton to transport 100,000 metric tons of sugar to the Karachi port.
The Trading Corporation of Pakistan objected to the bid of the London company and rejected it.
According to the tender notification, the German company placed the second lowest bid for the import of small and medium-grained white sugar. The German company Beer Syndicate FZCO placed a bid of $555 per metric ton of sugar, but the Trading Corporation of Pakistan also returned the bid of the German company with objections.
The notification stated that the bids of the London and German companies were rejected due to documents and conditions. The Swiss company Louis Dreyfus had placed a bid of $580.75 per metric ton to import small-grained sugar.
Similarly, the Dubai company Al Khaleej Sugar offered to import medium-grained sugar at $586 per metric ton.
The tender notification stated that the TCP accepted the bids of the Dubai and Swiss companies and declared them the winners.
The notification further stated that Dubai-based company Skedan Middle East had withdrawn its bid and withdrawn its documents.
According to the tender, two shipments of 25,000 metric tons of sugar or one shipment of 50,000 metric tons will be made from September 5 to 20, while the import of 200,000 metric tons of sugar will be done gradually from September 5 to October 15.
