A cylinder explosion in a wedding house in Sector G-7-2, Islamabad, killed 8 people, including the bride and groom.
On the instructions of DC Islamabad, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf reached the spot.
Additional Deputy Commissioner General Sahibzada Yousaf said that the cylinder explosion took place in a wedding house while guests were also present in the house, the bride and groom are among the deceased. A total of 4 houses were affected due to the explosion.
He said that a total of 19 people were evacuated from the houses, 8 of the 19 rescued people died. The other 11 injured people were immediately shifted to the hospital due to the explosion.
After the incident, an alert was issued at PIMS Hospital, where the injured are being given medical assistance.
According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner General, the debris is being checked with the help of K-9 units and modern technology, and an investigation has also been launched regarding the causes of the explosion.
According to the spokesperson of Islamabad Police, DIG Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq is present at the spot and is directly supervising the ongoing rescue operation. Senior officers of Islamabad Police are also present at the spot along with DIG Islamabad.
Police and rescue teams are carrying out rescue operations in complete coordination, the area has been completely cordoned off.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of precious lives in the cylinder accident in Islamabad and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Prime Minister directed the Health Minister, Health Secretary and PIMS administration to remain alert and provide all possible medical assistance to the injured.
According to the PIMS administration, all the deceased have been identified, the body of Sunil Javed has been shifted to his house in Tench Bhata, while the five bodies will be shifted to the morgue.
PIMS sources say that the house of the affected family was destroyed in the blast, so the bodies are not being moved. The bodies will be moved to the morgue after completing the death certificates and other paperwork.
The relatives will decide when to receive the bodies and whether to conduct a post-mortem.
