Islamabad: Iran and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen agricultural cooperation and expand bilateral trade in farm products, marking a significant step toward strengthening economic ties and regional food security.
The understanding was reached during the visit of Iran’s Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Mr. Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh, who is currently on an official trip to Pakistan. During high-level meetings with Pakistani authorities, both sides agreed to accelerate progress on key agricultural agreements and enhance collaboration across multiple sectors of the farming industry.
A major breakthrough includes advancing the process to finalize Pakistani corn exports to Iran, a move expected to benefit farmers and exporters on both sides. In addition, the two countries agreed to facilitate increased imports of rice, meat, and other agricultural commodities, aiming to ensure steady supply chains and balanced trade growth.
Officials emphasized that enhanced agricultural trade would not only contribute to economic partnership but also strengthen food security in the region. Both sides reiterated their resolve to remove procedural bottlenecks and streamline trade mechanisms to promote smoother cross-border movement of farm goods.
To ensure sustained progress, the Joint Committee on Agriculture Cooperation will continue to implement and monitor shared objectives, serving as a key platform for coordination, policy alignment, and dispute resolution.
The renewed commitment reflects the growing momentum in Iran-Pakistan relations and highlights agriculture as a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation, offering new opportunities for farmers, traders, and investors in both countries.
