Islamabad: On October 22, the U.S. Embassy, the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), and the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) inaugurated the first exhibition by an alumnus artist at a newly established gallery within the USEFP building in Islamabad. The gallery was created to highlight the achievements of alumni from U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs in the field of the fine arts.
The inaugural solo exhibition at the gallery features the work of Lahore-based artist Meena Haroon, an alumna of a U.S. Department of State exchange program focused on the preservation of cultural heritage. Drawing inspiration from her mother’s jewelry, Meena Haroon incorporates inherited ornaments and decorative objects into her artwork, using them as symbols of memory, identity, and familial continuity. The launch of this exhibition reflects the decades-long history of U.S. educational and exchange programs. Furthermore, it showcases an alumna whose accomplishments serve as a testament to the enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan.
