The ICC T20 World Cup is back this year after last year’s postponement. Sixteen Twenty20 International cricket teams are competing to bring home prize money reaching up to over $1 million.
The ICC T20 World Cup began on Oct. 17 and runs through Nov. 14. Starting Saturday, Oct. 23, the competition goes down to 12 teams. The semifinals then take place on Nov. 10 and 11, and the final match is on Sunday, Nov. 14. Each team participating in the World Cup receives a sum of cash — even the teams eliminated in Round 1 take home prize money. But, how much prize money do the winners take home? Sporting News breaks down the total purse for the competition, along with outlining how much money each team makes.
The winners of this year’s T20 World Cup will receive $1.6 million. The winning team will be the only team to receive at least $1 million.
The lowest amount of money a team can take home in the T20 World Cup is $40,000, which is given to all the teams in Round 1 regardless of whether they win or lose. If a team wins during Round 1, it receives $40,000 for each win. Similarly, if a team wins in Round 2, it gets $40,000 for each win.
