ISLAMABAD, 09 JAN (DNA) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says the government is making all-out efforts to ensure complete end to power outages during its tenure.
Chairing a meeting of the cabinet committee on energy in Islamabad Friday, he said addition of more electricity to the national grid before the advent of summer is priority of the government.
The prime minister directed to undertake efficient projects to ensure provision of electricity to the consumers at affordable rates. He said alternate energy sources including solar and wind power must be tapped. All impediments in the way of speedy electricity generation must be removed.
The meeting was informed that Expressions of Interest have been invited for the construction of 1100-km South-North gas pipeline. The project will be completed in two phases and it will reduce cost of gas transmission and result in reduction of the production cost of electricity.
Nawaz Sharif directed that timelines should be set for the project to achieve the objectives within a specified timeframe. The meeting decided to install LNG fueled power plants to reduce energy shortfall.
The Prime Minister emphasised that electricity transmission system should be improved to reduce line losses. DNA
