ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has rejected claims made by former PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat regarding Aleema Khan allegedly seeking the party chairmanship or asking him to step down.
Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar termed Sher Afzal Marwat’s recent television remarks as “disappointing.” He said he had previously taken a commitment from Marwat to avoid making shenanigan statements, adding that it was inappropriate to appear on multiple TV channels simultaneously and launch attacks against individuals.
Clarifying the matter, Gohar stated that Aleema Khan had never sent him any message asking him to resign from the chairmanship. He further emphasized that she had never expressed any desire or intention to become the party’s chairperson.
The PTI chairman also said that Aleema Khan had never interfered in matters related to the party leadership. He recalled that party elections were held on March 3, 2024, and documents were submitted to the Election Commission on April 10, 2024. He added that the party was awaiting certification at the time, and therefore such statements were unjustified.
Barrister Gohar urged party members to refrain from making further controversial remarks and called for restraint in public discussions.
A day ago speaking on Dunya News programme “Tonight with Samar Abbas,” Sher Afzal said Aleema Khan mobilised the social media brigade against him, adding she can go to court against him if she wants.
He said Aleema Khan has caused irreparable damage to the party. She asked Barrister Gohar why he was weakening the issue of the founder’s vision, adding there is no person in PTI whom Aleema Khan has not criticised.
MNA said that Aleema Khan considers the people of the party as servants. Ali Amin Gandapur has a strong position in the party.
He said, “I think Sohail Afridi is a guest for a few weeks. After Eid, there will be another Eid for those MPAs who have to elect the Chief Minister. The sword of disqualification is hanging over the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and there are also a couple of other legal matters.”
