Due to the shortage of gas, the supply to the CNG sector in the country has been stopped and there is a fear that power generation will be affected.

According to sources, only 80 mmcfd gas will be available to power plants across the country from next month (April), due to which there is a fear that power generation will be affected.

Sources further said that the supply of 150 mmcfd gas and LNG that was available in March will be stopped. There is a possibility of complete shutdown of gas for the CNG sector as well.

25 to 30 mmcfd gas will be transferred to the power sector and gas from the fertilizer sector can also be allocated for power generation.

Sources say that the production of 1500 to 1800 MW of electricity generated from coal has also been put at risk, as a result of which there is a fear that 10 to 15 percent of power generation will be affected.

The plants in Sahiwal and Jamshoro are facing coal shortage. The current coal stock is only enough for 3 to 7 days, due to which there is a possibility of load shedding for another 2 to 3 hours.

On the other hand, SSGC is also facing gas shortage. According to the spokesperson, gas supply has decreased due to technical reasons in 2 gas fields.

He said that the administration is constantly monitoring the situation and is trying to resolve this unexpected shortage as soon as possible.
