Islamabad: France has reaffirmed its commitment to stand by Pakistan in times of crisis as French Ambassador Nicolas Galey announced €500,000 in financial support for flood recovery efforts in Swat and Buner. The grant will support a seven-month project titled “Community-Led Recovery for Flood-Affected Populations in Buner and Swat”, implemented by Acted in close coordination with federal and provincial authorities.

Ambassador Nicolas Galey said: “In these tragic circumstances that many parts of Pakistan are going through, we are pleased and proud to support Acted with a grant of €500,000. Acted was already on the ground in 2022 when historic floods struck the country, and their expertise will help address ongoing emergency needs while also supporting communities in reconstruction. France remains committed to supporting Pakistan in the fight against climate change, which affects us all and requires collective action at both global and local levels.”

The project, benefiting 3,000 households (around 21,000 individuals), will restore critical infrastructure, safe shelters, water and sanitation services, and provide livelihood opportunities. Acted will rehabilitate water supply schemes, pumping stations, and household latrines, while also establishing temporary learning centers, training teachers, and distributing educational supplies. Vulnerable families, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, will receive winterization kits, while psychosocial support sessions will help communities cope with post-disaster trauma.

Sarfraz Laldin, Country Director of Acted Pakistan, stated: “This project aims to ensure that communities regain access to life-saving services, such as safe water, sanitation, and hygiene, while also protecting children’s right to education in emergencies.”

Through France’s financial assistance and Acted’s expertise, the project will not only provide immediate relief but also foster resilience, dignity, and long-term recovery for flood-affected communities in Swat and Buner.
