First ODI: Maharaj's career-best bowling, Australia defeated by 98 runs

South Africa defeated Australia by 98 runs in the first ODI thanks to Keshav Maharaj’s career-best bowling.

According to the details, Australia won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first.

South Africa scored 296 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs thanks to half-centuries from Aiden Markram (82), Timba Bavuma (65) and Matthew Bretzke (57).

For Australia, Travis Head took four wickets, Ben Dorries took two wickets and Adam Zampa took one wicket.

In pursuit of the target, the Australian team started aggressively, but after the first wicket fell for 60 runs, the Australian batsman could not face the devastating bowling of Keshav Maharaj.

Captain Mitchell Marsh stood out by scoring 88 runs. Ben Dorries 33 and Travis Head 27, Nathan Ellis 14, Adam Zampa 11, Josh Ingles 5, Aaron Hardy 4, Cameron Green 3, Marnus Labuschagne 1 and Alex Carey were all out for no runs.

Keshav Maharaj took 5 wickets for 33 runs. Nandre Burger and Langi Ngedi took 2 wickets each while Subramaniam took 1 wicket.
