Farooq Sattar, a former top MQM member, has emerged as the front-runner for a joint candidacy in the Karachi NA-45 by-election as the TLP factor has compelled all-party groups to reassess their strategies, according to The News on Saturday.
The MQM-P, Sattar-led MQM Rehabilitation Committee, Afaq Ahmed-led MQM, and Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party are in talks to field a joint candidate in the next local government elections and NA-245 by-elections, an MQM-P leader told the outlet. After PTI MNA Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain passed away, the NA-245 seat became vacant.

A byelection in this significant constituency is scheduled for July 27.PTI, which boycotted the NA-240 by-election on June 16, is also running for the seat and hoping to keep its current representation in the National Assembly. The journal claims that the TLP factor compelled the MQM’s split sections to jointly run the party’s old guard in the NA-245 by-elections. In the recently held by-elections, the MQM-candidate P’s narrowly retained the party’s traditional constituency NA-240 by a margin of 65 votes despite losing a significant portion of their support base to the TLP, who finished second.

The MQM-P leaders reviewed potential strategies for the impending by-elections in NA-245 during a meeting of their coordination committee, which was presided over by the party convenor Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. According to a spokesperson for the party, Siddiqui has also extended invitations to Sattar and other leaders to collaborate with MQM-P.

According to a statement, the group voiced severe concerns about the continuous exploitation of urban Sindh and questioned the province’s arbitrary election constituency delineation. The meeting also covered a number of other topics, such as the by-election in NA-245 and the local elections in Hyderabad and Karachi, it added.
Today is anticipated to see an official declaration in this regard.
