Efforts are being made to resolve outstanding issues between Iran and the US, says Prime Minister

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that history is witness that it takes many years to wage war and establish peace, Pakistan will continue to play its role for the sake of Allah and to save human lives. Briefing the members on diplomatic efforts in the cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister said that after the talks between Iran and the United States, the clouds of war have lifted and Pakistan has got an opportunity to turn the war into permanent peace, and even today, a ceasefire is in place between the two sides.

He said that Pakistan will continue to play a role for peace in the region, it took many years to stop the war and establish peace in the history of the world.

The Prime Minister said that the US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance, while the Iranian delegation was led by Speaker of the Assembly Baqir Qalibaf and the Foreign Minister. The two delegations spoke directly to each other for 21 hours continuously and I am a witness that both of them sat face to face. This was the first time in 47 years that both sides sat together.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s leadership worked day and night for this success and this is the result of our sincere efforts, due to which the ceasefire between the two sides is still in place. There are some issues between the two that are still pending, which efforts are underway to resolve.

The Prime Minister said that the Islamabad Peace Talks were a historic event, through which a permanent ceasefire, mediation and hosting were possible at a time when the entire world economy was reeling.

He said that the Prime Minister of Japan called and congratulated him on the ceasefire and acknowledged Pakistan’s role, while many European leaders called and appreciated the efforts from the bottom of their hearts.

The Prime Minister said that Allah accepted this effort through the prayers of the nation, and I congratulate Ishaq Dar’s team, Field Marshal Asim Munir and the team from the bottom of my heart and pay tribute to the nation.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the war ended with the foresight and wisdom of the Field Marshal and an agreement was reached on a temporary ceasefire. It is my responsibility to keep national secrets and they are buried in my heart, but I am a witness to such moments. The Field Marshal and the team stayed up all night. There were some moments when things fell apart and then came back to normal.
