Karachi: MQM Pakistan leaders have said that the demand for devolution of powers to the grassroots is to save the country.

MQM Pakistan Chairman Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, while holding a press conference with members of the central committee, said that Pakistan has a feudal democracy. The reason for Iran’s successful resistance is the devolution of powers to the grassroots. Our demand for devolution of powers to the grassroots is to save the country.

He said that powers should be devolved to the grassroots before imposing a lockdown. The government has played an active role after the war. It is too early to say what conditions Pakistan may face in this matter. We are with Pakistan, which is playing the role of mediator. We must be mentally prepared. The army defending Pakistan is professional. In times of war, not just the army, but the entire nation fights.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that if the enemy decides to inflict any damage, the first target will be Karachi. Pakistan’s security cannot be guaranteed by keeping Karachi in this condition. If the government accepts our demand, we will stand together to save the government. The fire that has been talked about for the last two or three decades has reached our doorstep.

The Chairman MQM Pakistan further said that so far the leadership of Pakistan has played an active role in this war. It is not yet known what role Pakistan will play. The world also knows that the Pakistani army is ready to defend its borders. When such situations arise, power is transferred to the streets.

He said that by establishing MQM, we are saying that more responsibility lies with those who vote than those who vote. One of the reasons for the unity of the Iranian nation is the local government of Tehran. We had hoped that the powers of the local government system would be transferred to the lower level in the 28th Amendment. There is talk of lockdown, there is talk of economic crisis. The time has come to prepare by transferring powers to the streets.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the transfer of powers to the people is being prevented due to a small minority. The highest court of Pakistan had decided on the request of the MQM leadership. Prime Minister, tell me what did MQM ask you for the continuation of democracy? We only demanded that the Constitution of Pakistan be made easier for the people of Pakistan.

He added that we are addressing all political parties and the government through the media. Our demand is that the 28th Amendment be introduced. Answer us so that we can take the final decision to stand with the government. Only a united Pakistan can stand with Pakistan in the war.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that MQM stands with the victims of Gul Plaza. If they have to come to the streets for their rights, we will not forgive them. The administration of this city goes to their native areas during holidays. Their absence in the city during emergencies will further increase chaos and unrest in the city. Only the people of Pakistan can save Pakistan. MQM is not a party of professional politicians.

MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar, while addressing a press conference, said that now is the time to transform the feudal democracy in the country into a participatory and inclusive democracy. The people should be given the right to decide to change their destiny. An effective and empowered local government system has become indispensable for the survival of the country.

He said that the MQM has presented a formula to put 144 districts and cities of Pakistan on their feet. The Strategic Development Plan should be fully implemented. The final hearing in this regard will be held tomorrow in the Sindh High Court. 1200 representatives of the National and Provincial Assemblies cannot decide the fate of the people. Only by giving authority can you empower a mayor or town administrator.

Mustafa Kamal, while addressing a press conference, said that today’s world has seen that during wars, civil administration is mobilized along with the army. Pakistan’s current system is in the hands of 4 Chief Ministers. There are 400 cities in Pakistan which are impossible to govern through the current system. It is also impossible to control the energy crisis through local representatives. This has become a national security issue for Pakistan. In the context of the ongoing war in the region, this constitutional amendment by the MQM is more necessary than ever.
