Commercially viable 16 projects put on display at AIOU’s physics conference

ISLAMABAD:  Commercially viable 16 research-based projects on civic problems were put on display at the 3rd annual conference on Physics and emerging sciences, which began here on Monday at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU).  The projects were developed by the faculty members and the students of AIOU. They reflected the creative and constructive work done under the supervision of the University’s Physics department. The University will continue to promote and disseminate such research-based projects for the benefit of general public and the policy-makers, said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while inaugurating the conference.  The projects related with problems faced by the people in their daily life. He announced that a brand new research journal on science and technology will be published in July this year to highlight the applied and public-related research work. Ten papers, to be presented during the two-day conference will also be published in this journal to encourage the youth who are doing fantastic work in the field of science and technology.  The inaugural session was also addressed by Dean Faculty of Sciences Dr. Naghama Rashid and chairman physics department Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas. It was being attended by around 200 academicians and scientists from around the country.  Executive Director Higher Education Commission Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi who was also present on the occasion inspected the public-service projects and appreciated the students for their innovative ideas. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui assured that the AIOU will extend all possible support to the Physics department and the students for carrying on the welfare-oriented research work. The projects displayed at the exhibition included: Toxic gas detector, street-light glow on detecting vehicles, micro-controller based temperature and calendar monitoring system, heart-rate monitor using system, micro-controller based caller ID, micro-controller based overheat detector, digital fuel gauge using microcontroller, vehicle security tracking system, micro-controller based weather monitoring system, automatic vehicle accident detector and ambulance tracking and monitoring patients’ health system. INP
