Chinese President announces continued support for Pakistan in all areas of economic development

ISLAMABAD: The President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, has said that China will continue to support Pakistan in all areas of economic development, especially as CPEC has entered its second phase and is focusing on Pakistan’s most important economic sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Shehbaz Sharif is currently on an official visit to China. During their very cordial meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthen the ironclad and all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China.

The Prime Minister congratulated President Xi Jinping on the successful holding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Summit in Tianjin and extended his greetings on the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War.

Praising President Xi Jinping’s vision and leadership, which has led China to the heights of modernization and development, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is very proud of China’s achievements and will always be ready to work with China on this great journey.

The Prime Minister appreciated China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and socio-economic development.

He appreciated the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a key project of President Xi’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and reiterated his willingness to continue working with China for the successful implementation of the upgraded next phase of CPEC, which will add five more corridors.

These steps will help both countries build a stronger Pakistan-China community with a shared future.

The Prime Minister appreciated President Xi Jinping’s strong commitment to strengthening multilateralism and said that Pakistan fully supports President Xi Jinping’s historic initiatives in this regard, including the Global Governance Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative.

The Prime Minister said that these initiatives are essential for the collective global good and will contribute to regional and global peace, stability and development.

President Xi said that China will continue to support Pakistan in all areas of economic development, especially as CPEC has entered its second phase and is focusing on Pakistan’s most important economic sectors.

The two leaders agreed that the relationship between their countries is unique and unparalleled and this should be reflected in further enhancing their bilateral cooperation.

The two leaders also discussed important regional and global developments and agreed to continue close cooperation between Pakistan and China in this regard.

The Prime Minister renewed his sincere invitation to President Xi Jinping to pay an official visit to Pakistan next year to mark the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China friendship.

In addition, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today to discuss the regional situation, economic cooperation and further promotion of bilateral relations.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also inspect a local hospital in Beijing, while he is also expected to meet prominent Chinese businessmen to discuss the promotion of investment and trade ties.

This visit is being described as of utmost importance in the context of further strengthening relations with Pakistan, China and other countries in the region.
