ISLAMABAD: The President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, has asked the European Union to deploy a special envoy to Kashmir to help resolve the conflict.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhary said this during a meeting with Maria Arena, Chairperson of the European Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Bernhard Zimniok, Member of the European Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, and Virginie Joron, a French member of the European Parliament.
According to a news release received here Thursday, the president called on the European Union (EU) to establish a special envoy to Kashmir to evaluate the situation in Occupied Kashmir and submit a report to the European Parliament. He went on to say that the European Parliament should host an intra-Kashmir dialogue and play a role in bringing India and Pakistan together.
He added that the terrible situation in Indian-controlled Kashmir requires the EU’s immediate attention. He also requested that EU lawmakers assist in the formation of a Friends of Kashmir group in the European Parliament in order to rally support for resolving the Kashmir problem and ending the current human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir.
He went on to say that the horrible situation in Indian-controlled Kashmir needed immediate intervention from the EU. He also asked EU MPs to help form a Friends of Kashmir group in the European Parliament to mobilise support for settling the Kashmir issue and ending the current human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir.
