Patriot Report
ISLAMABAD: The lacuna due to absence of a full time Foreign Minister has now been filled and Pakistan’s foreign policy is now on the right track, this was stated by Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) Senator and senior politician Mushahid Hussain Syed. The Senator was speaking with Editor in Chief Pakistan Group of Newspapers and Chairman Roze News Sardar Khan Niazi in Roze News program Sachi Baat.
Highlighting Pakistan’s strategic position in the world the Senator said that back in October 1947 – in an interview with American journalist Margaret Bourke-White, the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had envisaged Pakistan’s key role in global politics at a time when Pakistan was faced with numerous serious challenges including threat of war from India, faced with bankruptcy and settlement of refugees. Mushahid quoted Jinnah of having responded to the American journalist question regarding Pakistan’s future by saying “Pakistan is the pivot of the world, as we are placed, the frontier on which the future position of the world revolves.” He said that Quaid’s prediction seventy years ago proved faultless as Pakistan has emerged as a key player in world politics.
Speaking about Pakistan’s recent success on the diplomatic front Mushahid said that with Pakistan elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council we will not only be able to raise the Kashmir issue more forcefully but will also be able to raise the issue of Rohingya Muslims and Palestine. The Senator said that the other major success was the recent visit of Chief of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to Kabul which has been tremendously successful. The Senator pointed out that Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Omar Zakhilwal also admitted that such a ‘key visit’ has been rare in recent years whereas Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani said that he has met such a confident Army Chief for the very first time and the visit of General Qamar Javed Bajwa has restored the confidence of Afghanistan with respect to relations with Pakistan. He further said that the recent meeting of Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) in Oman involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, and the United States was a result of Gen Bajwa’s successful visit to Afghanistan.
The Senator added that General Bajwa and his team has an excellent understanding of geo politics and they are well aware that having good relations with neighboring countries is a pre-requisite to national security.
Commenting on Pakistan’s relation with the United States, the Senator said that the Trump administration initially adopted an aggressive policy with regards to Pakistan but there has been a visible change in recent weeks. He said that the softening of United States policy towards Pakistan is in fact a realization of the fact that sustainable peace in Afghanistan is not possible without Pakistan’s help.
Responding to a question by Sardar Khan Niazi’s regarding America’s ‘do more’ demand, Mushahid said that Pakistan has told the United States in unequivocal terms that the ‘do more’ mantra would no longer be tolerated as Pakistan has already sacrificed more than 70,000 citizens in the war against terror including soldiers, law enforcement agencies personnel, men, women and children. He added that in fact Pakistan’s success in the war against terror is unprecedented.
The Senator also congratulated Sardar Khan Niazi for winning the ‘best journalist award’ by European Union’s Human Rights Commission for his services in the field of journalism.
