Though Karachi operation against militants and extortionists has brought some respite to the largest city of the country, but considering recent incidents of target killings and kidnapping of high profile personalities it seems there is still much left to be done.
On June 22 masked men kidnapped Ovais Ali Shah, son of Sindh High Court (SHC) chief justice, from outside a supermarket in the Clifton area in broad daylight. After passing four days law enforcement agencies are unaware and could not find any clue that who kidnapped young lawyer.
It is being speculated that kidnapped young boy is the son of highest judge of highest court of the province so he could be used as a bargaining chip to get free some of the high profile criminals from jails. But possibilities such as ransom being the main motive can not be ruled out. We have witnessed high profile kidnappings in the past, former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son and Shehbaz Taseer son of late Governor of Punjab Salman Taseer were kidnapped purely for the purposes of ransom. Though both the kidnapped sons were freed after almost three years we hope this young lawyer return home in coming few days.
At the moment whereabouts of the kidnappers remain unknown to the police and entire provincial administration is now on its toes to find the kidnappers.
A common man must be thinking if the level of security is this fragile that high profile people are being kidnapped than what about his security. It is the need of time to intensify the efforts to make not only Karachi but rest of the country and peaceful and secure.
It is high time to intensify the efforts to make Karachi peaceful.
