The appointment of Ambreen Jan as Chairperson of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority is a welcome and reassuring development. This is not a ceremonial expression of congratulations. It is, in every meaningful sense, a case of the right person entrusted with the right responsibility.
Ambreen Jan brings with her a distinguished career in public sector media administration. She served as Managing Director of Pakistan Television Corporation, a position that required oversight of editorial direction, institutional governance, financial management, and national broadcasting policy. Leading PTV is not a routine administrative assignment. It demands a nuanced understanding of media ethics, state responsibility, and public expectations.
Before that, she held the office of Director General of Radio Pakistan. As DG Radio Pakistan, she supervised one of the country’s most historic and far reaching broadcasting institutions. Radio remains a powerful medium that connects urban centers with remote communities. Managing such an institution requires not only managerial competence but also a deep awareness of regulatory frameworks and content responsibility.
For this reason, the office she now assumes is not unfamiliar terrain. The mandate, powers, and obligations attached to PEMRA are well within her professional experience. She understands the mechanics of broadcasting, the pressures under which media organizations operate, and the necessity of regulatory balance.
At this important juncture, it is also appropriate to extend heartfelt congratulations to her on this prestigious appointment. We wish her success in discharging her duties with wisdom, strength, and integrity. The responsibility of leading PEMRA is immense, and we express our sincere good wishes that she will guide the institution toward constructive reform and institutional stability.
One of the most critical areas requiring attention is the effective implementation of PEMRA’s Code of Conduct. Regulation is meaningful only when rules are applied fairly, consistently, and without discrimination. As Ambreen Jan knows the media sector well, she understands both the spirit and the technical dimensions of broadcast regulation. This experience places her in a strong position to ensure that the PEMRA Code of Conduct is implemented in its true letter and spirit.
The Code of Conduct is not merely a regulatory document. It is a framework designed to protect constitutional values, national cohesion, ethical journalism, and responsible broadcasting. Its enforcement is essential for maintaining credibility within the media industry.
As the ROZE News is a channel that has taken pride in being among the first to voluntarily frame and implement its own internal code of conduct in accordance with Pakistan’s laws and Constitution, we fully understand the importance of regulatory discipline. Responsible broadcasting is not an obstacle to freedom. It is its safeguard. For this reason, we attach great significance to the proper enforcement of PEMRA’s regulatory standards.
We are confident that under her leadership, PEMRA will move toward improved governance, transparency, and accountability. Alongside progress in administrative and policy matters, we expect that she will give due attention to strengthening compliance mechanisms and ensuring that the Code of Conduct is upheld across the media landscape.Once again, I congratulate Ambreen Jan on her appointment and extend our best wishes for her tenure. May her leadership contribute to a more responsible, professional, and constitutionally aligned media environment in Pakistan.
