According to Indian media, India is expected to announce its decision in a day on Foreign Secretary talks with Pakistan. The National Security Advisers of the two countries are supposed to meet for bilateral talks.
It was being said that India may not go ahead with the talks but after the detention of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar by Pakistani security officials, Indian government is likely to give nod for the talks. Initially after the attack on Pathankot air base India said that unless Pakistan takes strong action against those responsible for the Pathankot attack, the Foreign Secretary-level talks could not go ahead.
Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif set up a committee of top intelligence, army and government officers to investigate India’s allegations asking for prompt and decisive action on the basis of specific evidence. We should appreciate statement of Indian officials to go ahead for the talks. This is the only way forward to cooperate and strength the bilateral ties. Efforts of Pakistan to probe the involvement of non sate actors inside the country to destabilize neighboring countries are also laudable. Pakistani law enforcing agencies have carried raids in various cities and unspecified number of people have been arrested. These arrests led Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to order a Joint Investigation Team of IB, Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Federal Investigation Agency and police to thoroughly probe the Pathankot attack links to Pakistan. After receiving reports about the involvement of non-state actors, it has become necessary for Pakistan to take the probe to its logical end.
It is an optimistic development that both the countries are doing serious work against extremism. Obviously if India and Pakistan join hands against the common enemy which is terrorism, it would lead towards peace and development in the region.
If India and Pakistan join hands against terrorism it will herald new era of peace and prosperity.
