The Punjab government has announced the dates for Basant in Lahore. A meeting regarding the festival, chaired by Home Secretary Ahmed Javed, concluded with the decision that a “safe” Basant will be celebrated in Lahore on March 12, 13, and 14, 2027. The Home Secretary stated that kite-flying will not be permitted on any unsafe rooftops in the city; it is mandatory to construct a protective parapet wall at least 3.5 feet high on rooftops by December 31, 2026, and any necessary repairs to rooftops at authorized locations must be completed.
Ahmed Javed further directed the Deputy Commissioner to conduct a thorough inspection of the rooftops of old buildings and houses. In the event of an unsatisfactory inspection report, the Deputy Commissioner is to prohibit kite-flying on such structurally weak buildings. The property owner shall be held responsible for the structural integrity of any rooftop used for kite-flying. The Home Secretary added that if electrical wires are located near a rooftop, the building owner is obligated to ensure they are made safe. Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner is tasked with overseeing the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of kites and kite-flying strings in accordance with established limits. The Punjab government has announced the dates for Basant in Lahore.
