H.E. Dr. Oumer H. Oba, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, hosted Dr. Raheel Qamar, Rector of COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), at the Ethiopian Embassy Islamabad on Thursday over a traditional coffee ceremony.
The Rector and his team visited the Embassy following the Ambassador’s recent meeting with COMSATS leadership at the CUI campus. Over the coffee ceremony, the two sides discussed ways to build on the previous discussions, which had explored cooperation in student and faculty exchanges, joint research in science and technology, and collaboration in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and robotics.
The Ambassador proposed faculty exchanges as an initial step toward broader cooperation, which could later include joint research and publications in scientific and technological fields.
He also briefed the Rector on Ethiopia’s tourism, culture and history, including the story of coffee, which originated in Ethiopia and has become a household ritual that fosters harmony among its people.
The Rector invited Ethiopian universities to visit Pakistan and work with COMSATS toward shared goals of prosperity, in the spirit of South-South Cooperation. He praised Ethiopian coffee culture and assured the Ambassador of his full support in strengthening educational cooperation between the two countries.
