The issue of illegal spectrum and crime-terror nexus behind terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has raised serious questions on the governance of the provincial government.

KP province is currently in the grip of terrorism, the main reason for which is the lack of full implementation of the National Action Plan. The lack of effective action against illegal spectrum and crime-terror in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased the wave of terrorism.

The DG ISPR has pointed out in his briefings that for the permanent elimination of terrorism, action against illegal spectrum, drugs, smuggling and financial support, better governance and elimination of political support are necessary. The biggest example of crime-terror nexus and illegal spectrum is the cultivation, harvesting and distribution of drugs in the Tirah Valley. According to sources, drugs are cultivated on about 12,000 acres in Tirah and Khyber, a part of the income of which reaches terrorist elements.

In July 2026, customs seized smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs 1.163 billion during 2 weeks. In the first quarter of 2026, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police recovered 5,695 kg of hashish, 847 kg of ice, 210 kg of heroin and 275 kg of opium.

The lack of effective action against the illegal spectrum and crime-terror nexus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa raises questions about the administrative failure and incompetence of the provincial government.
