Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that water is the guarantee of the future of future generations, making it a weapon for political pressure is unacceptable.
Addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected the political use of water and presented a concrete plan of action for regional stability.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that water is the guarantee of human survival and the future of future generations, it cannot be used as a weapon of pressure or for political purposes under any circumstances. He stressed on full compliance with the spirit and letter of international agreements.
He further said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an important platform for global peace and stability, the completion of 25 years of which is a historical milestone. The Prime Minister, expressing concern over the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and the West Bank, urged the international community to respect the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. He made it clear that without sustainable peace in South Asia, the region would be unable to realize its true economic potential.
Mentioning Pakistan’s sacrifices against terrorism, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan had sacrificed more than 90,000 lives and suffered an economic loss of more than $150 billion. He categorically said that no one could be allowed to use Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan.
Regarding Pakistan’s chairmanship, he said that CPEC is a key project to connect regional economies with the Arabian Sea. Pakistan’s priorities now include energy, IT, health, culture and sports, as well as establishing an artificial intelligence infrastructure and governance framework. The government is determined to translate the SCO vision into practical steps.
