The British Council, in partnership with the Scottish Government, has invited applications for the Scotland Pakistan Scholarship Scheme for Young Women and Girls 2026-27, while the deadline for submission of applications has been extended to 15 September 2026.
The aim of this scholarship programme is to support women from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in Pakistan to pursue higher education. The programme was launched in 2013 and has so far provided educational support to more than 25,000 female students across Pakistan.
According to James Hampson, Country Director of the British Council Pakistan, over the past decade, more than 25,000 women and girls have had the opportunity to pursue school and university education thanks to this scholarship scheme. The programme is creating new educational opportunities for young women while making quality education more affordable.
The scholarships are available to eligible female students pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes at HEC-recognised universities in Pakistan. The scholarship covers various fields including education, agriculture and food security, sustainable energy, health sciences, climate change and STEM engineering, while applications can be made at both bachelor’s and master’s levels in STEM subjects.
The scholarship will cover the tuition fees of the selected students, while university hostel expenses will also be provided as per the requirement. Students living in on-campus hostels will also be provided with travel expenses between home and university twice a year.
Masters students will also be provided with research funds to access quality laboratories, equipment and necessary facilities for their research work.
Postgraduate students can get scholarships for two-year masters or MPhil programs, while undergraduate students can get scholarships for four-year bachelor’s degree programs in eligible fields.
The applicant must be a Pakistani citizen and resident in Pakistan, and he/she should also have a confirmed offer of admission for the relevant degree program in a university recognized by HEC.
The British Council also specifically encourages female students from minority communities and people with disabilities to apply.
