Eid Milad-un-Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wasallam is being observed across Pakistan today with religious fervour, solemnity and a renewed spirit of devotion. The occasion marks the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wasallam, whose life and teachings continue to serve as a timeless source of guidance, compassion and moral strength for Muslims around the world.
The day will begin with a 31-gun salute in the Federal Capital and a 21-gun salute in all provincial capitals. A public holiday has been declared to enable people to participate in religious gatherings and programmes arranged to mark the auspicious occasion. Special prayers will also be offered after Fajr for the unity of the Muslim Ummah and for the progress, prosperity and stability of Pakistan.
Across the country, mosques and religious institutions have arranged special programmes, while streets, roads, buildings and homes have been decorated with green buntings, flags and colourful lights. These displays reflect the deep affection and reverence Muslims hold for the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wasallam and provide a visible expression of the religious significance attached to the day.
Milad processions will be taken out in cities and towns, bringing together people from different sections of society. Ulema and Khateeb will address gatherings and highlight various aspects of the life, character and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Their central message is expected to focus on following the Sunnah and incorporating the Prophet’s principles of justice, compassion, honesty, tolerance and respect into everyday life.
The observance, however, should go beyond ceremonial activities. The true significance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) lies in reflecting upon the exemplary character of the Holy Prophet and translating his teachings into practical conduct. At a time when societies face growing challenges of intolerance, division, injustice and social discord, the principles of mercy, patience, brotherhood and justice offer a meaningful path towards greater harmony.
Character building is among the most important responsibilities of any society. The life of the Holy Prophet provides a comprehensive model of leadership, responsibility, dignity and compassion that can help guide younger generations towards constructive citizenship and ethical conduct.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) therefore offers an opportunity not only to express devotion but also to renew a collective commitment to the values embodied by the Holy Prophet (PBUH). If the spirit of the occasion is reflected in our conduct, tolerance and treatment of others, its message can contribute meaningfully to peace, unity and social harmony.
