Cases of the mosquito-borne West Nile virus are on the rise in the United States, with more than 180 people infected in 30 states so far this year and at least eight deaths reported.

The situation in the state of California is also worrying. According to state data, 30 people have been confirmed to have West Nile virus so far this year, of which three have died. This number is almost three times higher than the same period last year.

West Nile virus can severely affect the brain and nervous system in some infected people. A 70-year-old man in Elk Grove, California, was also hospitalized after being infected with the virus, where various measures were taken, including a spinal tap, for his medical examination.
