Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqai has strongly criticized US policy towards Iran and the Middle East, saying that Washington’s foreign policy is relying too much on lies and misrepresentation rather than facts.

According to Iranian media, Esmail Baqai referred to the novel The Brothers Karamazov by renowned Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky in his statement and said that a concept expressed in it applies to the current American governance and its policy towards the region.

He took the position that when an individual starts believing his own lies repeatedly, there comes a time when it becomes difficult for him to distinguish between truth and misrepresentation. Baqai criticized US policy in this context. GeographicReference

On the other hand, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has also given a strong message to the US. Reacting to US President Donald Trump’s statement on the Strait of Hormuz, he said that Iran will not be intimidated by US threats.

According to Garibabadi, the decision-making authority regarding the Strait of Hormuz rests with Iran and the decision to open or close the waterway will be under Iranian command.

The latest statements by Iranian officials come at a time when tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high over various issues, including regional security, US policy and the importance of the Strait of Hormuz.
