Islamabad: Electricity consumers across the country, including K-Electric, are likely to get a major relief of Rs 63.94 billion.
The hearing on the adjustment request of the DISCOs for the first quarter of 2026 has begun at NEPRA. The authority, headed by Chairman NEPRA Wasim Mukhtar, held the hearing.
According to the DISCOs’ request, there was a reduction of Rs 36.83 billion in capacity charges from January to March, a reduction of Rs 11.24 billion in system usage charges and market operation fees, and a reduction of Rs 23.51 billion in incremental units.
Electricity consumers were happy with the relief of Rs 1.93 during the NEPRA hearing. During the hearing, the industry and other electricity consumers praised NEPRA and the Power Division.
Consumers said that they are happy that electricity prices are being reduced in the country, electricity prices have increased worldwide due to the regional situation, in such a situation, the Power Division should not increase electricity prices in the country.
Industry consumer Tanveer Bari said that in the same way, continue to provide more relief to the public in electricity, it is welcome for consumers to get relief of Rs 1.93, many electricity power plants are being retired in the country and new ones are being installed.
Industry consumers further said that there is a power generation capacity of 45,000 MW in the country, currently 25,000 MW of electricity is being generated in the country, when there is so much capacity, why are new power plants being installed, electricity is becoming cheaper for the whole country due to the increase in industry demand.
