The Iranian government has appointed Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as its special representative for China affairs.
Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that informed sources said that Parliament Speaker Baqer Qalibaf was recently appointed as its special representative for China.
The report said that Qalibaf will serve as a liaison between various national institutions related to China.
The appointment of Aqar Qalibaf as special representative was proposed by President Masoud Peshkeshian and has been approved by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
The sources said that Baqar Qalibaf’s appointment is different from previous representatives in terms of his powers.
The report did not clarify whether Baqar Qalibaf will continue in his position as speaker of parliament after this position.
