South Korea to join Hormuz security talks after cargo vessel attack

New York :South Korea is set to join a high-level multinational defence ministerial meeting on the security of the Strait of Hormuz, as Seoul assesses its response to a recent attack on a South Korean-operated cargo vessel in the key waterway.

The virtual meeting will be co-chaired by the United Kingdom and France, Al Jazeera reported, citing South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

South Korea’s Defence Ministry said Army Major-General Woo Kyung-suk would attend the conference.

The talks come as countries weigh security measures in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for global energy shipments.
