Instant messaging app WhatsApp is rolling out new updates to its Status feature. The new feature aims to increase transparency, especially when statuses come from unknown contacts or are repeatedly reshared.

According to WhatsApp Beta Info, the changes are currently being tested in beta and are aimed at improving user understanding and reducing confusion.

One important change concerns status updates that come from unknown numbers. Sometimes users see statuses from people who are not saved in their contact list. To address this issue, WhatsApp is testing a feature that will tell you why the update is showing up.

For example, the app could explain that the status is showing up because of a recent conversation or call. This additional clarity will make it easier for users to understand the source of the content and reduce confusion.

The second major improvement relates to reshared statuses. The company already displays a ‘reshared’ label above such statuses to make it clear that the content was originally shared by someone else.

Now, work is underway to make this feature more clear. However, keeping privacy in mind, WhatsApp does not reveal the identity of the original poster.
