The American newspaper The New York Times has claimed that the Iranian Supreme Leader is mentally active and informed, but the country’s important decisions are being made in practice by a group of top commanders of the Revolutionary Guards.

Speaking to the New York Times, an Iranian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was injured in the airstrike and is still under medical supervision.

The senior Iranian official said that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is seriously injured but conscious. Messages are being delivered to him by hand via messengers, and he responds only in writing.

The senior Iranian official said that to avoid Israeli or American surveillance, top officials are not going near Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and are using unconventional but secure methods for messaging.

The report further states that despite being absent from the public scene, Mojtaba Khamenei receives written notices about the situation in the outside world and gives his approval on important matters.

The New York Times report further states that the Iranian Supreme Leader is running the government in the style of a kind of board of directors, in which the commanders of the Revolutionary Guards play a central role.

An Iranian politician, Abdolreza Devari, said that the generals are actually the members of this board who make important decisions, including defense and foreign policy, while Khamenei ratifies these decisions.

The report reveals that Mojtaba Khamenei was injured in the attack in March in which his father, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was martyred along with his military leadership.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, says that proposals regarding a possible peace agreement with the United States have been presented to the Supreme Leader and his opinion will be given final importance.

According to the report, Qalibaf has also taken the lead in the negotiations in recent days, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has been pushed into the background.
