Prime Minister directs to purchase only electric buses, motorcycles for future official use

An important meeting on energy security was held under the chairmanship of Shahbaz Sharif, in which the country’s energy needs, savings, and future strategies were discussed in detail.

The Prime Minister said that energy security has now become a key part of national planning and despite the current regional situation, the country did not face an energy crisis due to timely measures.

He directed that work on establishing strategic reserves of crude oil should be accelerated keeping in mind future needs.

The meeting emphasized the promotion of environmentally friendly electric means of transportation for energy conservation and sustainable development.

The Prime Minister directed that only electric buses and motorcycles be purchased for future official use and the establishment of EV charging stations be expedited.

Furthermore, instructions were also given to facilitate battery storage to secure excess electricity generated from solar energy and to encourage the production of quality batteries at the local level.

During the briefing in the meeting, it was informed that the National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC) is reviewing the energy situation on a daily basis, while the country currently has abundant reserves of petroleum products and local production of gas and oil is also increasing.

Work is underway on two pilot projects for battery storage at the grid level, while those using solar energy at the domestic level are also being encouraged to adopt battery storage.

Federal ministers and senior officials attended the meeting and discussed the ongoing initiatives in the energy sector and future strategies.
