ISLAMABAD: JD Vance, the Vice President of the United States, is scheduled to depart for Pakistan today (Tuesday), according to diplomatic sources.

Sources said Vance will leave Washington, D.C. at around 2:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time. He is expected to make a stop in a third country for refueling before arriving in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, heightened security measures have been put in place in Islamabad amid preparations for a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran.

Law enforcement personnel, including police, Rangers, and Frontier Corps, have been deployed across major roads in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Strict checking is underway at multiple checkpoints, and routes leading to the Red Zone have been completely sealed.

Authorities have also suspended the metro bus service operating between the twin cities, while many educational institutions have shifted to online classes until next week.

Trump announced the two-week ceasefire with Iran on April 7, and has not specified when precisely it ends.

Trump said on social media that he believed his administration’s nuclear deal with Iran would be better than a 2015 international agreement reached after years of negotiations under then-President Barack Obama, a Democrat.

Trump withdrew from that agreement – which had been vehemently opposed by congressional Republicans and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – in 2018, during his first term as president.

It was unclear what kind of agreement could be reached in just a few days of talks, but the Republican US president predicted a quick result.

“I am under no pressure whatsoever, although, it will all happen, relatively quickly!” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
