OpenAI introduces new AI model for life sciences research

OpenAI has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) model, GPT-Rosalind, to advance biological knowledge and scientific research, expanding its expertise in the life sciences.

According to the report, GPT-Rosalind is named after the 20th-century British scientist Rosalind Franklin and is designed to support research in the fields of biochemistry, drug discovery, and disease diagnosis and better treatment.

In this regard, it was reported that the demand for AI-powered tools to accelerate the drug discovery and research process has increased among pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, and biotech firms.

OpenAI said in a blog post that the model is designed to help researchers accelerate the early stages of discovery by providing support for evidence analysis, hypothesis generation, experimental design, and other step-by-step research tasks.

According to the blog, researchers using this model will be able to access information from databases, read cutting-edge scientific papers, use other scientific tools, and make suggestions for new experiments because this model is based on OpenAI’s latest internal models.

GPT Rosalind is available as a research preview for authorized users in ChatGPT, Codex and APIs through OpenAI’s trusted access framework, while the company is also introducing a free life sciences research plugin for Codex that connects scientists to over 50 scientific tools and data sources.

OpenAI said it is working with Amgen, Moderna, Thermo Fisher Scientific and other customers to use GPT Rosalind in various research tasks.

OpenAI, the company that introduced ChatGPT, said that this is a version of its latest flagship model that is specifically optimized for defensive cybersecurity.

It should be noted that earlier, OpenAI’s rival company Anthropic announced a modern AI model called Mythos, after which OpenAI’s new model has been brought forward.
