India has rejected the visa applications of Pakistani-origin players of the US cricket team.
American fast bowler Ali Khan shared a picture of himself eating a brisket in a story shared on Instagram and wrote in the caption that the Indian visa application has been rejected, which has put a question mark on the preparations of the US team.
Ali Khan’s Instagram story made it clear that he is currently not allowed to enter India.
This situation is also worrying because most of the matches of the US in Group A are scheduled in India.
The US is scheduled to play against hosts India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 7, after which there will be matches against the Netherlands and Namibia in Chennai.
If the visa issue is not resolved in time, the team may have to make last-minute changes to the squad, which will cause difficulties for them.
Although there has been no direct confirmation of visa rejections for any player other than Ali Khan, social media reports suggest that other Pakistani-American players, Shayan Jahangir, Ehsan Adil and Muhammad Mohsin, may face similar problems.
There has been no official statement from USA Cricket or the ICC on the matter yet.
According to sources, several associate teams are worried about visa issues ahead of the matches in India, especially those players with Pakistani backgrounds or documents, as their applications are subject to additional scrutiny.
This situation has made administrative issues an unnecessary discussion ahead of the tournament.
