Karachi: A controversy has erupted over the creation of sexual images of women and children through Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence platform Grok.

According to foreign media reports, the AI chatbot Grok on Elon Musk’s social media platform x (formerly Twitter) is currently under criticism worldwide. It is accused of creating sexual images of women and children without their permission.

The controversy intensified when Grok Imagine was introduced last year, which allows users to create images and videos with written instructions. It also includes a ‘spicy mode’ that can be used to create pornographic content.

According to research, out of 20,000 images created between December 25 and January 1, at least 30 images showed children in semi-nude clothing. xAI has said in a clarification on the matter that illegal content is removed, accounts are suspended and cooperation is provided to law enforcement agencies.

In the UK, the technology secretary called the content unacceptable and regulator Ofcom called for an immediate explanation. In Poland, there were also calls for stricter digital privacy laws.

The European Union also reacted strongly, and prosecutors in France have included sexual deepfake content in their ongoing investigation into X.

India ordered X to remove illegal content and submit a detailed report within 72 hours, while investigations have also begun in Malaysia and Brazil.

Experts say the lewd images produced by Grok have once again highlighted the ethical, legal and social risks associated with AI and that stricter laws are needed to prevent future misuse of AI.
