ISLAMABAD: Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar has said that a guarantee was given in the NFC award that the share of the provinces would not be less than the previous share, due to the large number of members, we should have an opposition leader after the signature of 74 members.
He said this in a media interview after the PTI delegation met the Speaker of the National Assembly. Asad Qaiser, Junaid Akbar and Atif Khan also attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by him. The process of appointing the opposition leader was discussed in the meeting.
Barrister Gohar said that we told the Speaker that according to the rules, the requisition has been submitted, the leader of the opposition is the right of those who sit on the opposition benches, due to the large number of members, we should have an opposition leader after the signature of 74 members, the Speaker told us that the matter of the opposition leader was in court, the Speaker told us that a notice had come from the Supreme Court, the Speaker said that as soon as we receive a copy from the Supreme Court, progress will be made on it.
He said that we will try to get a copy from the Supreme Court and submit it to the Speaker’s Office. We have said that the copy should be submitted to the Speaker’s Office by Monday. The process of appointing the opposition leader will be completed by Monday.
He said that Article 243 is related to these forces. Even before this, some things were brought for amendments. We will talk only when the draft related to Article 243 comes out.
He said that the NFC award had guaranteed that the share of the provinces would not be less than the previous share. The NFC award had guaranteed that the federation would not be weakened but strengthened. During Ayub Khan’s era, the constitution was different, where a person could sit on two seats in the assembly. There were also such provisions in the constitution that members of the national and provincial assemblies could be present at the same time.
He said that amendments to the constitution should be made by consensus. The constitution is important because it is a document of the entire nation.
Barrister Gohar further said that we condemn the fact that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House is an important office and we would have sent the police there. If you have to issue a warrant, you can also issue it through the court bailiff.
