New research has shown that skipping breakfast can affect bone health and increase the risk of osteoporosis (weakening of bones) over time.
According to experts, most people eat a breakfast of milk, yogurt, eggs or fortified cereals, which are important sources of calcium and vitamin D. If breakfast is skipped, the body does not get these essential nutrients.
Our bodies constantly break down and rebuild bones, which is called bone remodeling. If you do not get nutrition at the beginning of the day, this process is affected, which can weaken bones.
Furthermore, skipping breakfast increases cortisol (a stress hormone). Excess cortisol can cause a decrease in bone density.
In addition, people who skip breakfast often do not get enough calcium and protein throughout the day. This deficiency weakens bones in the long run.
