Iranian President Masoud Peshmerga arrived in Lahore on a two-day official visit, where he was given a grand welcome. After visiting the Iqbal Shrine, he reached Islamabad.
The Iranian President arrived in Lahore with a high-level delegation, where he was warmly welcomed by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Upon the arrival of the Iranian President, Allama Iqbal International Airport was beautifully decorated with Pakistani and Iranian flags, while a red carpet was also laid to welcome the Iranian President.
This is Masoud Peshmerga’s first official visit to Pakistan as President, during which he is scheduled to hold important meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Speaking to Iranian media before leaving for his visit to Pakistan, President Masoud Peshmerga said that the main objective of this visit is to promote economic and trade relations between the two countries. He said that border security and regional peace will also be an important part of the discussions, and it is hoped that new opportunities can be created through border markets and connections through mutual cooperation.
The Iranian President also expressed his desire to increase the volume of Pak-Iran trade to $10 billion. He also expressed his desire for Iran’s full participation in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (One Belt, One Road) project, and said that through this project, Iran will get an opportunity to connect with Europe.
President Masoud Peshkeshian expressed his determination that every attempt to weaken the Islamic unity between Pakistan and Iran will be thwarted, and the relationship between the two countries will be stronger and longer-lasting.
Masoud Peshkeshian said that efforts are being made to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $10 billion. China and Pakistan are eager to actively participate in the One Belt, One Road project. The One Belt, One Road project may provide an opportunity to connect Iran with Europe.
The Iranian President also expressed his determination that attempts to harm the Pak-Iran Islamic unity will fail.
Visit to Iqbal’s shrine
The Iranian President visited the shrine of the poet of the East, Allama Iqbal. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and other ministers were also present on the occasion. The Iranian President offered prayers at the Iqbal shrine, laid flowers and recorded his impressions in a book.
Arrival in Islamabad, welcomed by the Prime Minister
The Iranian President reached Islamabad after visiting the Iqbal shrine, where he was received by Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif at the airport.
The high-level delegation accompanying the Iranian President includes Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, senior ministers and other high-ranking officials. During his stay, the Iranian President will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
During this visit, high-level delegation meetings will be held between Pakistan and Iran. This is his first official visit to Pakistan as the President of Iran. This visit will further strengthen the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran.
