LAHORE: For allegedly inciting violence and religious hatred against PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the Punjab government on Monday filed a terrorist case against two federal PML-N ministers and PTV executives.
Federal Minister Mian Javed Latif, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director Sohail Khan, and Controller Program Rashid Baig have all been charged with terrorism at the Green Town police station in Lahore.
A PTI activist by the name of Irshad-ur-Rehman requested the registration of the lawsuit. The FIR states that by misrepresenting and portraying Imran Khan’s words on a TV broadcast, “Mian Javed Latif claimed Imran Khan to be a non-Muslim, a facilitator of non-Muslims, and to be outside of the jurisdiction of Islam.”
According to the complaint, Javed Latif used the religion card against Imran Khan in order to further his party’s agenda. He also allegedly made the statement in order to incite sectarian animosity and heighten religious tension in the nation.
The FIR further claimed that Imran Khan’s millions of supporters and PTI employees had been harmed by the PML-N leader’s comments regarding him. During a press conference the following day, Javed Latif reiterated his accusations against Imran Khan.
The complainant charged that the PML-N ministers were utilizing the assets of the government for their political and wicked plans. He claimed the PTV’s officials helped the PML-N leader “do the crime” and called for action against them.
According to the complaint, Maryam Aurangzeb and other members of the PML-N leadership were consulted before and supported the PML-N leader’s decision to launch the campaign against Imran Khan.
