After Miftah Ismail, the finance minister intimated that he was receiving criticism from within the party, Khwaja Asif, the defence minister, spoke out in support of Ismail on Saturday. The finance minister previously said that he was “not intended” to make an announcement on a price increase for petroleum items on national television the previous evening, but he did so after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requested it.
His remarks followed the social media sharing of footage from his participation in a television programme. However, the defence minister praised his associate for performing his job “under trying conditions” and referred to him as one of PM Shehbaz’s team’s “hardest workers.” “FM Miftah is one of the PM’s staff members that works the hardest and is available to all stakeholders. He is doing remarkably well despite being heavily criticised by powerful people, including, regrettably, members of the PML-N, and under extremely trying conditions. It’s time to support Miftah, the defence minister tweeted.
