President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, was detained by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday in connection with a money laundering investigation.
The former Punjab chief minister was taken into prison by the police for corruption cases when the FIA squad arrived at the Lahore camp jail and apprehended him. To obtain his physical remand, the PTI leader would be produced in court.
The news comes a day after an agency filed a lawsuit against him and his son Chaudhry Moonis Elahi for alleged money laundering in the Panama crisis.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president and the former federal minister were found to have enterprises, according to the Panama scandal. The FIA had gathered proof and accused Mr. Elahi and his son in a lawsuit.
The former chief minister of Punjab and his son were accused of concealing billions of rupees in five Panamanian businesses in a case brought under the laws controlling fraud and money laundering. According to FIA sources, Parvez Elahi allegedly purchased firms in Panama, and there was evidence that money was being transported outside the country unlawfully.
In the Punjab Assembly (PA) illegal recruitments case, Mr. Elahi was granted post-arrest release by an anti-corruption court on Tuesday. It happened as the court announced a decision that it had earlier reserved. After hearing the plea, the judge, Ali Raza, announced the decision.
