Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again reiterated his claim of his role in the ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
Speaking to the media during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz at the White House, President Trump said, “I am proud that I stopped a war between two nuclear states. I told both countries that if you fire, trade will stop.”
Trump added that “Pakistan has very strong leadership,” which showed his confidence in the Pakistani government.
It should be remembered that President Trump has repeated this claim dozens of times that he brokered a ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
However, India’s Modi government expresses strong displeasure over this claim every time and the Indian opposition party Congress uses it as an opportunity to ridicule the Modi government.
India has consistently denied Trump’s role. Last month, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told a parliamentary committee that “this ceasefire was completely bilateral, Trump had no role.”
“Trump didn’t ask us for permission to come in the middle, he came on stage himself,” he said.
It may be recalled that on May 10, Trump announced on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’ that Pakistan and India had agreed to a ceasefire.
